Pretty much though the timing does line up with the Third Large wave of fans so to speak interest died during/after season 2 and while the fans didn't go anywhere as the show was overall staying consistent with it's quality Season 5 was another huge wave due to again Pony Lenin.

It was pretty funny seeing people trying to read super deep into the show about colorful horses to find secret nazi propaganda or the people trying really hard to equate sharing is good with we must oppose the proletariat.

The best part is the show pays attention to the fans (for good and bad) so i'm 50% sure a bunch of later jokes were aimed at those weirdos specifically.
