Blaming her for whores in your fandom is a bit of a reach. She was one of the first and that's it as far as I am concerned. Any technology that can be used for porn will be used for porn. Live2D, Mocap and VTubers as a whole were never going to be an exception and I don't think any single person is to blame for "popularizing it". Porn doesn't need advertisement.
Also a lot of energy spent on being annoyed about something that is still very easily avoided. Watch your wholesome oshi and be happy. And if your oshi's becoming a whore, you gotta take it up with her and not Melody.
My counter argument here is a simple one, Melody took off early by bringing Whore content. There certainly is whore content in Japan, however Melody was shilled hard by the anime sector and even sector freaks like the Quartering. Because of how early this was in the West there is an association, especially on twitch with e-thotting. Her pioneering created an expectation, essentially a 50/50 approach in the West that vtubing would be an outlet for weeb shit or whore shit. If it would have come later on in the lifespan this wouldn't have happened on the scale it has.

I don't blame her I blame vshojo in general. Just like Holo inspired a lot of entrepreneurs to start their own agencies and indies to stream, and imo pippa has inspired a lot of small indies to be edgy and raunchy, vshojo inspired a lot of people to be ultra-lewd, specially on twitch.
