They all nearly burnt out hard trying to be faithful to the show with the final Cell fight while also including comedy. The final episode they did (Episode 60) was split up into 3 parts with an epilogue episode and it came out a year after Episode 59. Before they started Buu Saga, they tried to do the Bojack movie but they just couldn't make it work and felt like they were losing their touch with that content. It doesn't help that the Buu Saga was significantly less memeable than the Cell Saga. One of their most prominent writing techniques in the Cell Saga was the flanderization of certain characters or to represent how ridiculous situations. This writing technique carried them hard in the Cell Saga but the Buu Saga inherently does that throughout its run. So they couldn't just use that technique and they had to actually try again. So they were afraid of starting Buu Saga and either fucking it up or abandoning it midway through. Considering they were known for being lazy, they probably realized that the Buu Saga runs for pretty much the same length of episodes as the Cell Saga and they would actually have to try for that whole run instead of relying on a super easy comedy writing technique, so they said fuck that and ended DBZA.
They didn't make money off the videos themselves because Toei would rape them so they made money off shit like T-shirts and their Patreon. The problem was that they plastered "DBZA" everywhere and would put in a small sentence that funds from those incomes sources were to support ALL their projects like Hellsing Abridged. They thought they could coast off the success of DBZA and move on to do smaller and easier projects but they found out people stopped buying T-shirts and were unsubbing from their Patreon en masse after they cancelled DBZA. Then everyone went on to do their own thing so the possibility of doing a large project ever again just wasn't happening.
It's impressive how scuff this is. They have gone through all sorts of retarded shit left and right.
